I am from the class of '68. I was going through the yearbook to show some memories to a friend of mine. We live in Michigan and it was a delight to hear that this peroon was from N. Massapequa. In the matter of Mrs Vasi, I never had her as a teacher, but remember her well. My prayers to the family.
I considered Sue Vasi a friend. I was a student of hers for all my years of high school Spanish. I, later in life, came to know her as a friend. I joined the Marines after graduating, and spent alot of time in Spain. I became fluent with the language, in no small part because of her dedicated, hard work. I learned alot more than I knew I learned. I visited her at the high school when I returned. She was happy to see me, but when I began speaking to her fluently in Spanish, there were tears in her eyes, and in mine as well. I returned to Spain with the Marines and ended up marrying a girl from Barcelona. The wedding was held here, and she and my fiancee got to be great frinds. My fiancee even took care of Mrs. Vasi's husband Victor when he became to sick to care for himself. Mrs. Vasi attended our wedding and translated the service for my mother in-law. I lost contact with her after I divorced, and I'm sorry for that now. She touched and influenced my life in a tremendous way. She and a 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Jeffries at Northedge Elementary school are the two teachers that influenced me a great deal in my life. I later on went on to become a Police Offocer in NYC and spent 8 years in Spanish Harlem. More than once knowing spanish saved my health, and probably my life. It just goes to show you that you never know where your life will lead you, and even more importantly, who will have had an influnce on you along the way. Mrs. Vasi....you will be sadly missed, and lovingly remembered. Vaya con dios mi amiga! Ed Foley...Silent Serenade19@Yahoo.com
